What is a Fiduciary?
To better understand fiduciary duty, it’s first important to know what a fiduciary is. A fiduciary holds ethical and legal responsibilities to his clients – a relationship that requires trust and prudence on the part of the fiduciary. Clients often entrust a significant amount of wealth to a fiduciary, whether it’s in the form of cash or other assets.
Part of the fiduciary’s role is to act, always and first and foremost, in the best interest of his clients. In most cases, fiduciaries should not reap any direct financial gain from any of the decisions they make or the actions they take on behalf of their clients. If they do, it should be only with full consent from the client.
Planning is the Blue Print
A portfolio without a plan is like a house with no foundation. To ensure the portfolio is constructed properly we always make sure that an our Wealth Vision Financial Plan is drafted and in place before making decisions on how to build or remodel a portfolio. We build each client’s portfolio like a high-end custom home utilizing a broad range of investments which adhere to rigorous suitability review criteria. We take into account tax implications, risk metrics, and customers preferences in our construction process.
We utilize the following types of investments in our construction:
· Stocks/Stock Options
· Fixed Income Securites (CDs/Variety of Bonds)
· ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds)
· Mutual Funds (specialty or index)
· Structured Notes
We also have access to more non-traditional securities we can utilize in special circumstances. We don’t believe a particular type of security is inherently good or bad it all a matter of using the right tool for the job.
We use a third-party risk analysis software called Riskalyze to identify and address inefficient risk/reward scenarios. The software allows us to model risk from both a historical and forward-looking perspective to help our clients understand visually the risks associated with their current portfolio and how making changes will potentially impact long term outcomes.
In Summary these are the necessary steps from idea to implementation:
Step1. Financial Plan = Blueprints for goals, risks, timeline
Step 2. Investment Selection Process = using the right materials
Step 3. Financial Advisor = Contractor oversees portfolio construction
Step 4. Financial Custom Home = Newly updated portfolio (with ongoing care & maintenance necessary)
